A Croydon based care home brought the festivities of the Chinese New Year into their home with plenty of decorations, hand made by residents and staff members.

MHA Hall Grange offers residential and dementia care for up to 86 older people.

Residents enjoyed taking part in the build-up for the New Year, and thoroughly enjoyed making lanterns and helping put up decorations around the home.

Staff members at the home also prepared a Chinese themed lunch and supper menu.

The New Year, also known in China as the Spring Festival, is marked by the lunisolar Chinese calendar; this means the date changes from year to year.

This year marks the change from the Year of the Ox to the Year of the Tiger.

Debbie Mcmorrow, activity coordinator said: “We made some lanterns and hats which the residents really enjoyed making.

“We always make sure we get the residents involved in whatever activity we are doing, and they love a theme of any kind.

“Anything you get them involved in they really love and that’s what we hope to continue here at the home.

“We have spent all weekend decorating the home with residents assisting me.

“We will be having a Chinese themed lunch and supper menu which will include plenty of traditional food and I am sure the residents will enjoy it.

“We have done themes like this before, they always are well received by everyone at the home and we are already looking forward to the next one.”
