3 great day trips outside of London

Jul 26, 2022

London is a thriving multicultural metropolis with an extensive range of historical and modern attractions; however, many tourists often overlook the magnificent and enthralling destinations that surround the area.

For a great day trip, you could hop on a train in London and find yourself venturing around somewhere equally as exhilarating. With that said, here are three excellent ideas for day trips outside of the British capital.

Newbury Racecourse

For many, there is no better day out than a trip to the races – providing the perfect mix of excitement, dressing up, drinking, and trying one’s luck at earning some money from betting on a multitude of thrilling and captivating horse races.

Located just outside of the bustling city of London, Newbury Racecourse is a fantastic venue that has been hosting some of the most entertaining British horse racing fixtures throughout 2022.

Who doesn’t love a great excuse to get dressed up in their best suit or dress and have a few (or several) beers during the day? We think this notion has a day at the races written all over it. Of course, you don’t have to have a drink, but there’s no better way to drown your sorrows when you realise how much you’ve lost by gambling on the wrong horse (sighs).

At Newbury Racecourse, there are some divine hospitality and dining options to facilitate you, delivering splendid food and drink throughout each event. Make your day trip extra special with private hospitality for your family or friends.

A trip to Bath

You’re in for a spectacular day filled with wonder and water in the city of Bath. And that’s no pun, as the Roman-built city of Bath is home to many water-themed sites and attractions.

Meander around the beautiful city and its stunning Roman baths which – be warned – you can’t take a dip in; however, you may enjoy splashing around in the rooftop pool at Thermae Bath Spa, which provides breath-taking views of the city. It can be visited on a day trip from London, as it is only 90 minutes by rail from the capital.

As well as the impressive Roman baths, you can visit the Bath Abbey tower, explore several fascinating museums, and grab a bite to eat from any of the city’s pretty cafes and tea rooms.

Seaside fun at Brighton

How about some seaside fun? Grab a bag of delicious, freshly sourced fish and chips or a good old ‘99’ ice cream (which is no longer 99p) and take a stroll along the incredible Brighton Palace Pier, which is brimming with amusement rides, attractions and a plethora of entertainment opportunities for kids and adults of all ages.

Located in East Sussex, Brighton is so much more than a seaside spot, offering a complete range of fun rides and facilities for all guests on its famous pier.

It is by no means a golden resort with glamorous sandy beaches; instead, it houses pebble beaches, but it has a great variety of things to do for everyone.
