Staying on top of the latest trends can be expensive, with styles constantly changing and evolving.

Spending money on new clothes every month to keep up is not only an unsustainable approach but will also heavily set back your bank account.

That is why Aparna Avsarala, Owner of Denimrush has partnered with BoD to share their top tips on how to stay stylish on a budget.

#1 Boost your basics

The perfect place to start, our expert says;

“Building up the basics in your wardrobe is an essential part of staying on trend. Not only are they reasonably priced, but your basics will pair with anything, meaning you do not need to buy a new item for each outfit. White, black and grey pieces will allow you to experiment more with statement jackets or footwear without being too in-your-face. Having basic staple pieces will save you money and space in your closet”.

#2 Invest in a couple of classics

Trends are constantly changing; however, some pieces of clothing are timeless classics and will never go out of style. Aparna comments;

“Investing in a couple of classic statement pieces for your wardrobe will save you both time and money. These are pieces that you can style repeatedly, with different basics each time. You will amaze yourself with how many looks you can recreate with only a couple items of clothing, so a bit of research into timeless pieces can go a long way. Nowadays with the likes of thrift shops so prominent in fashion, what were expensive pieces can now be picked up for a fraction of the price.”

#3 Create a capsule wardrobe

Often your wardrobe will contain a lot of what you are searching for. Aparna says;

“There are hundreds of combinations that we could put together with our clothes, many of which we have not discovered yet. It is often easy to replicate the latest trends with items that we already own. Spend time going through your wardrobe and creating a capsule of outfits, you will realise that most of what you need, you may already have.”

#4 Vintage / Pre-owned

Brands don’t always have to be expensive, with many pieces available second hand. Aparna says;

“There are some great vintage and pre-owned shops which sell some of the trendiest clothes, for a fraction of the price. In addition, sometimes you can find what you are looking for unbranded. Many quality unbranded items are available for less and will complete your look just the same. Sites like eBay and Vinted are also great options if you’re willing to do a little digging, you may come out with some hidden treasures.”.

#5 Be creative

New trends are created by individuals who dare to switch things up. Aparna says;

“Staying on trend is great, but equally sometimes it is fun to try something different and explore your style. Pairing items you usually wouldn’t, or adding various accessories to your look will help you experiment and discover new trends. Taking the plunge on a new look can be a great confidence booster and will open doors for new styles in the future”

Being trendy does not have to set your bank back. These tips highlight how you can stay stylish by adopting both a cost effective and sustainable approach.
