According to InsureandGo, around a third of UK adults (32%) are not interested in watching the World Cup this summer, and are giving thought instead to summer escapes, perhaps getting away from the football frenzy. For a bit of fun, InsureandGo presented these people with a list of the 48 countries competing in the World Cup (the teams presented in their initial groups) and asked them if the World Cup was about aspirational countries they would like to visit – rather than football – who would win a travel world cup. Netherlands, Sweden, Japan and Tunisia triumphed. True to form, England did well but fell short and Scotland’s group had an early exit.
Garry Nelson, a former professional footballer and Director of Corporate Affairs at InsureandGo comments: “Whether people are going on holiday to get away from the football or choosing destinations based on the positive party atmosphere, football will be on many people’s minds this summer. With a record number of teams in the tournament this year, for a bit of fun we presented those heading abroad during The World Cup with the 12 tournament groups and asked them to pick the group of countries that, aside from football, scored highest as the places people would like to visit on holiday. Despite some of the economic challenges at the moment, the desire to travel abroad remains strong this summer – and at InsureandGo we aim to make it easy for people have a great break abroad while the sun is shining.”
