AI-driven data demand surged 690% in 2024, Fivetran finds

Fivetran, the global leader in data movement, today released new figures that show that AI-driven data demand grew by 690% in 2024. This demonstrates that companies are investing heavily in training LLMs, refining ML models and automating critical business processes.

These insights came from analysing the total volume of data moved by Fivetran customers across major industries throughout 2024 compared with the previous year. The trends reveal which industries are scaling their data pipelines at breakneck speed, notably:

  • Legal firms saw a 211.2% growth in data volumes as they are processing massive volumes of contracts and case data using AI
  • Healthcare’s 99.7% growth shows demand for AI-driven solutions in patient diagnostics

AI is turning these traditionally slow-moving industries into data powerhouses, requiring secure, automated and high-volume data movement to function effectively. AI’s growing influence is forcing other industries to adapt, too:

  • Retail (+54.2%) and manufacturing (+64.7%) are using AI to optimise supply chains, predict demand and automate operations
  • Insurance (+40.7%) and financial services (+27.5%) are leveraging AI to detect fraud, model risk, and improve customer experiences. AI-powered underwriting and automated compliance monitoring are driving major shifts in how financial data is handled.

Taylor Brown, COO and Co-Founder of Fivetran said: “We’re seeing a fundamental shift in how businesses use AI. Rather than being seen as an ‘add-on’, it is now becoming the foundation of how businesses make decisions. But this also presents a major challenge: moving and managing data at scale. That’s where Fivetran’s automated data pipelines come in – giving enterprises real-time data integration to keep pace with AI-driven demand and ensure clean, high-quality data flows without bottlenecks.”
