Barratt London has donated £50,000 to five different charities: Barnardo’s; Career Ready; Lewisham Foodbank; Sutton Mental Health Foundation and Acton Homeless Concern. Supporting those in need across the country, these donations will help each charity in a variety of different ways. Each will receive a £10,000 portion of the total donation.
Lucy Ivankovic, Interim Head of Barnardo’s London, said: “We are delighted to accept this very generous gift from Barratt London of £10,000. Barnardo’s works with the most vulnerable children in our society and the last 18 months have been so difficult for many of the young people we work with. The pandemic has impacted on their emotional health and wellbeing in so many ways and we have seen a significant rise in the number of young people needing support. Our services in London have been working hard to respond to that need and with such generous support we will be able to continue that work.”
Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, CEO at Career Ready, said: “Career Ready would like to thank Barratt London for this generous donation of £10,000. The last year has posed immense challenges for young people and there’s never been a more important time to support them. This contribution from Barratt London will help ensure that young people get the workplace opportunities, experiences, and skills they need to overcome these challenges and achieve their true potential in life.”
Sheena Starrett, Project Manager at Lewisham Foodbank, said: “With over 1 in 5 people now living below the poverty line, the need for foodbanks like ours is more vital than ever. We’re a largely voluntary organisation, and it’s thanks to donations such as this one from Barratt London that we are able to continue providing nutrition to those in our community, who would otherwise go hungry. With this funding, we will be able to provide food parcels, and other support to people who would struggle without it.”
Lisa Lancefield, CEO at the Sutton Mental Health Foundation, said: “I would like to thank Barratt London for its generous donation. We hope to use the money to update the small outdoor area at our Crisis Café and put up some fencing and a gate, hopefully making the area more attractive and safer for service users. We’re very grateful for the donation; it will be a real boost to staff and service users alike.”
Karen McDonagh, Chair of Trustees at Acton Homeless Concern, commented: “We are a fully voluntary organisation and wouldn’t be able to provide the vital services we do if it wasn’t for donations such as this one from Barratt London. The site team from Barratt London’s Western Circus recently renovated our beloved Emmaus House and the work they have done, plus the further support from this donation, has made such a difference to the volunteers and visitors already, and I’m so grateful to the team for their contribution to our charity.”
Jim Wood, Operations Managing Director at Barratt London, said: “Being able to support all five of these wonderful charities this year has been truly incredible. Five members of our staff were tasked with deciding where to gift this donation, and each of their chosen charities is hugely deserving of this money. We hope these funds will go some way to help support all of these charities to continue the essential work they are doing to help the community.”
