Staff from sign and graphics specialist, FASTSIGNS Enfield have contributed to a five-month challenge to raise funds for a charity founded by the owners of the franchise.
As part of the nationwide ‘FASTSIGNS Goes the Extra Mile’ charity campaign, the centre on The Wenta Business Centre Innova Park, joined the FASTSIGNS UK Support Centre and 16 other centres who all pledged to walk, cycle or run a collective total of over 720 miles – the overall distance between all UK centres.
Activities completed by the network included the UK Support team climbing Mount Snowdon, a 120km bike ride in the Tour de Yorkshire from FASTSIGNS Leeds, a team triathlon by FASTSIGNS Hammersmith and a colour run completed by the FASTSIGNS Chelmsford team.
FASTSIGNS Enfield also called upon the help of 40 neighbouring businesses to help them clock up the miles on exercise bikes stationed outside the centre in the business park.
The Simon Cooper Foundation is of particular significance for FASTSIGNS Enfield owners, Paul and Angela Cooper, whose son, Simon Cooper, launched the charity to help provide support to patients living with Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis and life-limiting conditions. Having suffered from both Cystic Fibrosis and cancer himself, Simon had both a liver and a double lung transplant during his life. Simon sadly passed away in July 2016 but his legacy lives on through the work the Foundation carries out across the country.
Paul and Angela Cooper said:
“All of us at the Simon Cooper Foundation are so delighted the FASTSIGNS centres across the country agreed to be involved in the ‘FASTSIGNS Goes the Extra Mile’ campaign.
“Despite a lifetime of ill health, Simon never stopped trying to help a variety of good causes. He travelled the country as an NHS Transplant and Blood Donor Ambassador and was never embarrassed to talk about his condition as it helped others understand the importance of involvement with charities and organisations that strive to raise funds to further research. FASTSIGNS Goes the Extra Mile travelled the country for Simon and we want to thank everyone for their efforts in helping raise funds for a very worthy cause.”
John Davies, managing director of FASTSIGNS UK, added:
“The Simon Cooper Foundation is very special to everyone in the UK FASTSIGNS network, so it’s fantastic that we’ve all been able to come together to raise money for this worthy cause. The fact that we smashed our target is a testament to how close our network is. We really are one big team and we had lots of fun fundraising this summer.
“A big thank you to everyone for their donations and for taking part in our summer challenge. These funds have enabled us to help a number of the associations that the Simon Cooper Foundation supports. We have contributed to the purchase of e-nebulisers that infuse medicine in under five minutes, specialist mattresses and bedding that prevent bed sores, a new basin for a hospice in Leeds and specialist clocks for a hospice in Birmingham.”
