Hannah Platt brings Defence Mechanism to Soho Theatre

Comedian Hannah Platt is bringing her critically acclaimed show ‘Defence Mechanism’ to London’s Soho Theatre for three nights this March (20-22). After a breakout run at Edinburgh Fringe 2024 that earned four award nominations, including NextUp’s Biggest Award in Comedy, Platt is ready to tackle her “dream venue.”

‘Defence Mechanism’ sees the Merseyside comedian candidly exploring her body dysmorphia diagnosis, taking aim at everything from skewed media representation to the commercialization of mindfulness. Through sharp wit and unflinching honesty, Platt transforms personal struggles into relatable comedy, drawing from her working-class background and recent revelations about her late father.

A BBC New Comedian of the Year Award finalist, Platt has already made waves in the industry, writing for BBC Radio 4 panel shows and performing at major festivals including Latitude and Download. She’s also supported prominent comedians like Fern Brady and Lou Sanders on their UK tours.

Don’t miss this rising northern voice as she examines the defense mechanisms we all build and what it means to let them down.
