New research from Mattressman has revealed that London is the most expensive part of the UK, in line with North Wales and Merseyside, for the electricity used for ‘a good night’s sleep’. The data collected revealed the cost for charging your phone, sleeping with white noise and leaving a fan on overnight (8-hours).
The price of electricity in London has increased by 56.5% in the last year. This makes it the most expensive part of the UK for electricity, with the North East being the cheapest.
The importance of charging a phone was highlighted, with the survey discovering that 57% of the UK charge their phone while they sleep, equating to a national cost of £79,853,329.53 per year.
The data also discovered that the UK population are spending £2,099,235.34 on their electric bills each night to get a good night’s sleep, equating to £766,220,897.55 per year, based on a population of 68,554,055.
Mattressman also looked at what location in the UK has the highest annual bill average. Based on the above factors, London, North Wales and Merseyside have the highest bill average for one person at £16.90 per year. Comparatively, the North East was once again the cheapest, with an annual bill average of £15.65 per person
Charging a phone, leaving a light on and sleeping with white noise were found from the survey as the three most common things people do to get a good night’s sleep, that involve using electricity.
Louis Kerry, Marketing Manager at Mattressman, says:
“What we found also interesting in this study was how electricity prices vary place-by-place. London, similar to most things, came out as the most expensive electricity bill, while the North East had the lowest bill.
Evidence from the Mattressman survey also revealed that 85% of the British population are worried about the rising energy costs, however, only 52% turn off standby items when not in use.
