Syon Manor College, Isleworth, Middlesex – a new post-16 provision for young people with autism and complex needs – is opening its doors on Friday 4th March to give parents and prospective students a taste of what life will be like at this brand new facility. Further open day events are scheduled for representatives from local authorities, external agencies and service providers. The college run by Options Autism – a specialist provider of caring and learning services for young people and adults with a primary diagnosis of autism – is part of Outcomes First Group, innovators in education and care and the UK’s leading provider of children’s services.

New Principal, Dr Carole Nicholson –  an educationalist and psychotherapist who has over 20 years’ experience as a senior leader in SEN schools – will be on site with her team to meet parents and students to discuss the broad curriculum provided by the college. They will be offering academic, vocational and life skills learning including BTECs and GCSEs, Functional Skills, ASDAN accreditations working towards Employability or Independence and Duke of Edinburgh qualifications.

“We are passionate about making a difference,” said Carole, whose specially trained teachers and vocational instructors supported by teaching assistants, will deliver sessions including but not limited to catering, social skills, vocational skills, functional literacy, and numeracy and ICT. Image in Action, independent living skills, social skills, Lego therapy, art as therapy, fitness and work experience will also be offered. “We aim to equip our students with a skill set to lead as independent a life as possible; these can be things like making a cup of tea, or something more complicated such as finding employment,” she said.

The all new facilities include STEM rooms, creative art areas, a catering kitchen and outdoor space for horticulture.

“Every young person who attends Syon Manor College will be supported by an experienced, specialised team dedicated to helping students fulfil their potential and become confident, happy independent members of society.”
