New research by luxury British jeweler, ROX Diamond & Thrills has revealed the perfect time to propose to your partner.
The study, which surveyed 2,000 heterosexual men and women in the UK seeks to uncover what the ‘perfect proposal’ looks like in the eyes of the British public, revealing that 2 years and 112 days into a relationship is the perfect time to propose to your partner.
Interestingly, women were more likely to want to be with their partner for longer before proposing, wanting to wait 2 years and 125 days on average, compared to 2 years and 98 days for men.
The findings come to light as we enter ‘proposal season’ (considered to run from November to February) and many couples consider making the next step in their relationship.
The perfect time and place to get engaged
When it comes to the perfect place for the proposal, choosing somewhere sentimental was found to be key, with the majority of men (54%) and women (60%) stating that somewhere personal and meaningful to them and their partner is the best location for the proposal.
Crucially, the vast majority (84%) of respondents said that they would want the proposal to happen in private, away from the public eye. Although having someone else present to be able to capture the moment in a photo is still important to many (39%).
For those who would like to propose on a significant date, the most preferred choice was found to be on the couple’s anniversary (34% of respondents). Interestingly, New Year’s Day was found to be the least popular choice (2% of respondents).
Are diamonds still everyone’s best friend and how much should a ring cost?
Google search data shows that one of the most common questions surrounding engagement rings is how much you should spend on them, with over 2,000 people in the UK searching for the answer each month.
According to ROX’s research, 90% of people would pay up to £3,000 for an engagement ring, although the perfect amount to spend on the ring was found to be £1,429. When looking at the differences between how much men and women believe should be spent on a ring, women believed that on average a ring should cost £1,567. Comparatively men, believed it should cost £1,284 – £283 less.
Diamonds are forever and still the most popular choice, with 66% of people preferring them to any other gemstone.
Kyron Keogh, Co-founder of ROX Diamonds & Thrills comments:
“It can be challenging to know where to begin when it comes to proposals. Social media can be oversaturated with ‘perfect proposals’, but the most important thing to remember is that a proposal is merely the beginning of the beautiful union you’re creating with your partner.
“And while it’s easier to think your partner might want something straight out of a fairytale, in reality, they might want something much simpler and personal to you as a couple.”
“To make things a little easier, our experts in-store can steer you in the right direction, helping you make the right choice when it comes to the engagement ring and making sure you get the ‘perfect proposal’ for you as a couple.”
