The Luna Cinema, the UK’s leading producer of open air film screenings, is to partner with the Natural History Museum, one of the UK’s most popular visitor attractions and a world leading scientific research centre, to bring pop-up cinema to one of the most unique indoor locations in London this autumn. The partnership will commence with two nights of classic Halloween films.
On the evenings of Sunday, 28th and Monday, 29th October, film fans will be able to choose from a selection of Halloween-themed thrillers to watch inside the Natural History Museum’s majestic Hintze Hall, home to the iconic 25-metre skeleton of ‘Hope’ the blue whale suspended in the air. Guests will sit amongst an array of fascinating historical specimen – from a rock as old as the solar system to a rare Atlantic blue marlin fish.
There will be two screenings each night, and a programme that includes some classic horror titles, perfect for the time of year. Audiences can choose from The Blair Witch Project and Silence of the Lambs on the Sunday and Ghostbusters and The Shining on the Monday. As well as getting to experience the film, every guest will receive a complimentary box of popcorn and access to the Natural History Museum’s new blockbuster exhibition, ‘Life in the Dark’, before the films begin.
The Natural History Museum launched its Movie Nights series in August 2017. However, this is the first time that the museum has partnered with The Luna Cinema to produce a series of high-quality pop-up cinema nights of this scale.
George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said: “We are so excited to be partnering with the Natural History Museum, such an iconic and culturally important venue, to host two incredible nights of films this autumn. We have picked out a selection of classic thrillers and horror films to get everyone in the mood for Halloween this year and it’s really going to heighten the experience for viewers watching amongst specimens spanning billions of years – this out-of-hours access is something very special indeed.”
Lucy Woodbridge, Head of Visitor Events at The Natural History Museum, said: “Movie Nights is a truly unique experience, where else can you watch your favourite film underneath the biggest mammal on the planet? We are really excited to be partnering with The Luna Cinema, the UK’s fastest growing pop up cinema. Together, we will be producing a series of Halloween screenings which are not to be missed.”
